Julia is 12 years old and since her birth she lives in a children’s home in Moscow. She was born with a very severe cleft palate and a face malformation. These facts made her parents abandon her. Conduct of this kind is not uncommon in Russia.

Julia has no mental functional handicaps. Now she will soon come to Sweden for operations at the Sahlgrenska Hospital in Gothenburg and this is made possible by the Nedira Foundation.

Another girl, afflicted seriously by scoliosis will soon knock at the doors of the Nedira Foundation. Her name is Vjosa Pllana. She is 13 years old and comes from Pristina in Kosovo.

Acke Ohlin, senior physician and assistant professor at MAS in Malmö, has studied her documents and material that has been sent here. He maintains that she must have an operation. At present we have many ailing children in hand and our funds are under pressure but it is difficult to say no.

Helped by these two girls, cousins of Vjosa’s, we have therefore started a new fund-raising collection. Vjosa came to Sweden on November 7 for x-ray and general medical examinations and assessment.

Li Wen Jing is a 16-year-old girl from an orphanage in China. She is afflicted with scoliosis and polio. She has been examined by Swedish doctors and they pointed out that her severe scoliosis can be improved considerably by an operation.

Acke Ohlin, senior physician at MAS, has checked the records of the case and his assessment is that Li Wen will be considerably better after an operation. To be able to breathe Li must continually wear a bothersome corselet.
